Virginia got out to an abysmal start, going scoreless for the final 6:22 of the first quarter, trailing #18 Georgia Tech by as many as 20 in the second.

But a 9-0 run got the margin down to two with 3:26 to go, before the Yellow Jackets closed things out for a 75-62 win on Thursday.

Kymora Johnson led UVA (11-9, 3-5 ACC) with 22 points (10-of-19 FG, 2-of-6 3FG) and five assists.

Breona Hurd had 16 points (5-of-9 FG, 2-of-3 3FG, 4-of-5 FT) and six rebounds for the Cavaliers.

Latasha Lattimore put up another double-double – 10 points (2-of-11 FG, 0-of-6 3FG, 6-of-8 FT) and 10 rebounds.

Dani Carnegie had a game-high 29 points (7-of-17 FG, 5-of-11 3FG, 10-of-11 FT) to lead Georgia Tech (17-4, 5-3 ACC).

“When you’re playing great teams, you can’t play two quarters out of the four. We need to compete for 40 minutes,” UVA coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton said. “I thought we had grown in recent games in doing that, and today took a little step back, but we’ll fix it. We’ll get back to work. We’ll get healthy, get our treatment in, and be ready to go on Sunday.”
