The Cavaliers come into the game on a three-game win streak after defeating Charleston Southern, 85-65, on Friday night (Dec. 18) in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers hit a season-high 10 three-pointers against CSU, their third-straight game connecting on at least eight shots from outside the arc. Coming into the game, Charleston Southern had held opponents to an 18.3 long-range shooting percentage, ranked third in the nation.

UVA made 31 baskets overall, with a season-high 20 assists. Sophomore Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va.) and senior Faith Randolph (Derwood, Md.) combined to provide 14 of the 20 assists.

Virginia had five players finish the game with double-digit points, the third time this season five or more players finished a game with at least 10 points. The Cavaliers also had five players with five or more rebounds in the contest, the second time this season that occurred.

With a 24-point performance against the Buccaneers, Venson had her third 20-point game of the season. Venson was 9-of-12 shooting overall and 4-of-6 from long range. Venson leads the team, averaging 14.5 points per game. In the last four games, Venson is averaging 18.5 points per game and 4.25 assists per game (17 total), shooting 48.0 percent (25-of-52).

Randolph scored 17 points against CSU, her fifth-straight game scoring in double figures. Randolph is averaging 13.4 points per game this season. In the last two games, Randolph has scored a combined 31 points with 13 rebounds, 12 assists and four steals, shooting 45.8 percent.

Sophomore Lauren Moses (Mount Holly, N.J.) came up just short of her third-straight double-double with 10 points and seven rebounds. Moses is currently eighth in the ACC in rebounding, averaging 7.2 per game.

Redshirt sophomore J’Kyra Brown (Rocky Mount, N.C.) came off the bench to contribute 10 points, her third double-digit scoring effort of the season, while also grabbing six rebounds.

The Ohio State game will be Virginia’s first game against a top-10 team this season and second game against a team ranked in top-25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll as Iowa was ranked No. 24 when the Cavaliers faced the Hawkeyes on Dec. 2. Virginia’s last victory over a top-25 team was a 75-59 victory over No. 8 Louisville in the final game of the 2014-15 regular-season.

Ohio State’s three losses this year have come against the No. 1 (UConn), No. 2 (South Carolina) and No. 3 (Notre Dame) teams. The Buckeyes are second in the conference and sixth in the country in scoring at 85.2 points per game. OSU has shot 50 percent or better from the floor in six of the last seven games. Senior Ameryst Alston and sophomore Kelsey Mitchell were each named to the preseason Wooden and Naismith Award Watch Lists. Mitchell and Alston are one of the top-scoring duos in the country, averaging a combined 43.3 points per game.

Ohio State holds a 6-2 advantage in the all-time series, but Virginia won last year’s season-opening match-up, 87-82, at John Paul Jones Arena. In the Cavaliers’ last trip to Columbus in 2010, the Buckeyes logged a 74-46 victory.

After taking a short break for the holidays, UVA will be back in action on Monday, Dec. 28, hosting the two-day Cavalier Classic Tournament, presented by Holiday Inn University Area with Coppin State, Richmond and Lafayette competing in this year’s annual tournament.

Single-game ticket prices for all home games are $10 for Reserved seating, $8 for adult General Admission and $6 for youth (18 & under), senior (60 & over) and UVA faculty/staff General Admission.
