The Virginia women’s basketball team (7-3) hosts Charleston Southern (5-4) on Friday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena.

Virginia is coming off a nine-day exam break, having last played on Dec. 8, when the Cavaliers defeated Bowling Green, 68-39. UVA has won its last two games against NJIT and Bowling Green by an average of 28 points with the Cavaliers +12.5 in rebounding margin. In the last two games, UVA has made eight three-pointers in each game, is averaging 17.0 assists per game, has 18 fewer turnovers than the opponents (+9 per game), has 25 more rebounds than the opponents (+12.5 per game) and is averaging 63 shots to opponents’ 48.5.
Sophomore Lauren Moses (Mount Holly, N.J.), who had one double-double last season, has posted back-to-back double-doubles in the last two games, helping to move her into the top-10 in rebounding in the ACC, averaging 7.2 boards per game (8th). Moses has also scored in double figures in each of the last five games, averaging 13.0 points per game since the Rutgers game (Nov. 27).
In the last two games, sophomore Aliyah Huland El (Randolph, N.J.) has made 13 field goals, including five three-pointers, while also contributing eight assists. Huland El is averaging 22.1 minutes of playing time per game this season, scoring an average of 10.9 points per game. In the last two games, Huland El has averaged a team-best 15.5 points per game while still only playing 22.5 minutes per contest.
Senior Faith Randolph (Derwood, Md.) scored 14 points in the win over Bowling Green, the eighth time in the last nine games that she has scored in double figures. Randolph also had four assists in the game, the third time this season she has reached that mark. Randolph is 10th in the ACC in field goal percentage, making 46.3 percent of her attempts.
Charleston Southern has lost its last two games, falling 51-40 at Liberty and 64-51 at Georgia Southern. Alyssa Mann leads the team, averaging 16.4 points per game.
The Buccaneers have held their opponents to a mere 18.3 three-point percentage on the season. The Bucs have held three opponents scoreless from behind the three-point line already this season, while limiting Clemson (6.7 percent), Paine (15.4 percent) and Liberty (20.0 percent) in their matchups. For the season, opponents have connected on 22-of-120 three-pointers.
Charleston Southern leads the Big South Conference in blocked shots on the season paced by Monique Maximilien’s 21. The Bucs blocked a season-high 10 blocked shots against Paine.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Virginia will next play at No. 10 Ohio State on Monday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio, before breaking for the holidays. UVA will be back in action on Monday, Dec. 28, hosting the two-day Cavalier Classic Tournament, presented by Holiday Inn University Area with Coppin State, Richmond and Lafayette competing in this year’s annual tournament.
