waynesboroWaynesboro Country Club is inviting the community to its Pickleball Kickoff on Sunday, June 1 starting at 1:00 pm.  All ages and skill levels are welcome, with complimentary paddles and instruction provided along with a free lunch from the Club.

As one of the fastest growing sports in America, pickleball is easy to learn and enjoyed by all ages.  It combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. Waynesboro CC members have embraced the sport with four courts built upon one standard tennis court.  Pickleball Ambassador Adam Stanley stated, “The USA Pickleball Association and Augusta County Pickleball are delighted to cement this relationship with Waynesboro CC. The club has been fantastic to work with, and we are excited for continued growth.”

Damon DeVito, managing director of Affinity Management (www.affinitymanagement.com), which runs Waynesboro CC, commented, “There are a lot of exciting things happening at WCC right now.  We are open to fresh ideas and you have to pay attention to a sport that’s growing so quickly.  Pickleball activity has already been noticeable.”

Pickleball is played on a badminton-sized court with a perforated plastic ball similar to a wiffle ball. The net is low, only 3 feet tall, and players use paddles about twice the size of those used for ping-pong. The sport is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. Nationally and locally the game has developed a passionate following due to its friendly, social nature, and its multi-generational appeal.

After the Pickleball Kickoff, Waynesboro CC invites the general public to use its pickleball courts for $5 a day.  Pickleball, along with access to golf, swimming and the clubhouse, is included in Waynesboro CC membership.

Waynesboro Country Club is a full service, family-centered private club committed to southern hospitality. The Club provides an outstanding 18-hole golf course, swimming pool, tennis and pickleball courts as well as casual and gourmet dining.  Non-member outings, events and weddings are welcome.  For more information about Waynesboro Country Club, visit www.waynesborocountryclub.org or call 540-943-1131.
