Washington squeaks past Giants, 1-0

washington nationalsSunday’s game turned for the Washington Nationals in a span of about five minutes.

Wilson Ramos homered to lead off the bottom of the seventh, moments after Ben Revere robbed Brandon Belt with a Say Hey Kid basket catch at the base of the wall in center, to key a 1-0 Nats win over San Francisco.

Belt’s two-out blast would have scored two for the Giants, who had Madison Bumgarner (10-7, 2.20 ERA, 1.00 WHIP) dealing, having given up one hit in six scoreless innings to that stage.

Bumgarner took the hard-luck loss in a complete-game effort, giving up a run on two hits, striking out seven and walking two.

Tanner Roark (12-6, 2.88 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) earned the win, scattering five hits in seven scoreless innings, striking out five and walking three.

Mark Melancon (31 saves, 1.38 ERA, 0.90 WHIP) struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth to record the save for Washington (66-45).
