Wang takes L in rehab start for P-Nats

Gus Schlosser allowed one hit over eight scoreless innings as the Lynchburg Hillcats were victorious over Chien-Ming Wang and the Potomac Nationals 6-2 at Pfitzner Stadium.  The win for Lynchburg is the first in their last six tries in Woodbridge.

Schlosser (10-4) allowed a leadoff single in the top of the first inning to Adrian Sanchez but that was the only base runner he would allow.  He retired the last 24 batters he faced striking out six.  With his tenth win, Schlosser is tied with teammate Cody Martin for the most wins in the Carolina League.

In his second rehab start with the P-Nats, Wang (0-1) worked the first four innings and was saddled with the loss.  He allowed three earned runs on three hits and issued two walks.  Wang threw 66 pitches with just 36 for strikes.

The Hillcats jumped on Wang right away in the top of the first.  Mycal Jones led off with a double and scored on a two-bagger by Nick Ahmed for the game’s first run.  Ahmed advanced up to third base on a ground out and scored on an RBI groundout by Adam Milligan to double the lead to 2-0.

Lynchburg extended the lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning.  Milligan led off with his first triple of the year and came into score on a groundout by Braeden Schlehuber.

Milligan added an insurance run for the Hillcats in the top of the eighth with an opposite field home run to left field to extend the lead to 4-0.

A ninth inning surge by Lynchburg put the game out of reach for Potomac.  Emerson Landoni reached on a one-out single and moved up to second on a single by Jones.  Ahmed then followed with a two-run double to deep center field to give the Hillcats a 6-0 advantage.

Potomac was able to avoid the shutout with two runs in the ninth inning against reliever Blaine Sims.  After Kevin Keyes led off with a double, Adrian Sanchez beat out an infield single and the throw from Matt Weaver was high allowing Keyes to score on the play.  Ricky Hague stepped to the plate next and singled in Sanchez to make it 6-2 but was thrown out trying to extend it into a double, extinguishing a potential rally.
