Voters are reminded that Virginia law requires a photo ID when voting in person. Acceptable forms of photo ID include:- a valid Virginia driver’s license
- a valid U.S. passport
- an employee ID card with a photo
- a government issued photo ID card
- a photo ID issued by a Virginia college or university
Any registered voter who does not have a photo ID may apply for a free Virginia Voter Photo Identification from any General Registrar’s Office.
The Virginia Voter Registration Card contains important information about a voter’s residence address and legislative districts, however, it does not have a photo and does not meet the requirements of Virginia’s photo ID law.
A voter who arrives at the polling place without a valid photo ID may vote a provisional ballot. The voter will then have untilnoon on Friday following the election to deliver a copy of a valid photo ID to the local Electoral Board. Detailed written instructions will be given to the voter at the polling place.
