A Charlottesville Police K-9 was found deceased in a PD vehicle at his handler’s residence in Greene County on Sunday night.

K-9 Blue and his handler, Darius Nash, had been certified to work calls in 2024.

Per a release from the Charlottesville PD, the Virginia State Police is investigating the death.

The department, in a statement in the release, asked the community “to keep Blue’s handler and his family in their thoughts during this difficult time.”

“K-9 partners are more than working animals; they are members of our department family. They are trained and trusted to serve alongside their handlers in keeping our community safe. The loss of a K-9 partner is felt deeply throughout the entire agency,” the release said.
