Senior led Cavs to road wins over Minnesota, Virginia Tech

Virginia senior forward Mike Scott has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week for his play in the Cavaliers’ victories at No. 15 Minnesota and Virginia Tech last week.

Scott averaged 19.0 points and 12.5 rebounds a game in the two games. He was 15-29 (51.7 percent) from the field, including making his only three-point field goal attempt, and 7-9 (77.8 percent) from the free throw line.

The 6-8 native of Chesapeake, Va., had double-doubles in points and rebounds in both games. He now has had double-doubles in four consecutive games and is the first Virginia player to accomplish that since Travis Watson during the 2001-02 season.

In Virginia’s 87-79 win at Minnesota in the ACC-ig Ten Challenge on Nov. 29, Scott scored 17 points, had a game-high 12 rebounds and three assists.

In the Cavaliers’ 57-54 win at Virginia Tech on Sunday (Dec. 5) in the ACC opener for both teams, Scott scored 21 points and had a game-high 13 rebounds.

The ACC Player of the Week recognition is the first for Scott.
