Virginia Tech football legend Bruce Smith endorses Mark Warner in new TV ad

Hampton Roads native, NFL Hall of Famer, and Virginia Tech legend Bruce Smith endorsed Senator Mark Warner today in a new television ad that will be broadcast during Virginia Tech’s game against Ohio State on Saturday.

“Three Words” highlights then-Governor Warner’s work in June 2003 to get Virginia Tech into the Atlantic Coast Conference. Working with leadership teams from the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech, as well as political and business leaders from across the Commonwealth, Governor Warner led the effort to ensure that Virginia Tech was included as part of the 2003 expansion of the ACC.

The move was lauded by fans, coaches, and analysts as making the league more competitive, but most importantly, it has helped boost the profile of Virginia Tech and continues to contribute significantly to the economy of Southwest Virginia.

“I’m proud to have the support of Bruce Smith, a Tech icon and a great Virginian,” said Senator Mark Warner. “Tech’s move to the ACC was about more than just sports. It was about helping to elevate Tech’s profile while also strengthening Southwest Virginia’s economy.”

A Norfolk native and Virginia Tech All-American, Bruce Smith was a 1985 first round NFL draft pick by the buffalo bills. He played 19 seasons in the NFL (1985-2003), and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2009. Smith’s 200 career sacks is an NFL all-time record.
