Virginia Democrats report more than $2 million in political contributions in second quarter

Chris Graham

va democratsGovernor Terry McAuliffe continues to raise enormous sums for the Democratic effort in Virginia, announcing today that Common Good VA PAC and the Democratic Party of Virginia raised over $2 million in the second quarter.

This fundraising haul puts Virginia Democrats in an excellent position for victory in November and bests Governor Bob McDonnell and the Republican Party of Virginia’s totals in the comparable period of 2011, who only brought in $1.64 million.

Common Good VA and the DPVA will also report having over $1 million cash-on-hand. Funds are already being put to use by investing in key staff, data and targeting programs, and other infrastructure necessary to win in 2015 and beyond.

Key stats:

  • In the second quarter, Governor McAuliffe and Virginia Democrats raised over $2 million. In Q2 2011, McDonnell and Virginia Republicans raised just $1.64 million.
  • Thus far in 2015, Governor McAuliffe and Virginia Democrats raised $3.5 million. In the first six months of 2011, McDonnell and Virginia Republicans raised $2.8 million.
  • The JJ Event raised over a million dollars for the Democratic effort and showed staggering enthusiasm for Democrats in November.

“Voters around the Commonwealth are responding to Governor McAuliffe’s work to build a new Virginia economy and they want a General Assembly who will work with him,” said Morgan Finkelstein, press secretary for the Democratic Party of Virginia.
