VDOT Culpeper District Report: July 28-Aug. 1

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled; weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. Items in italics contain new or updated information.

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 eastbound – Deck repairs to bridge over Route 29 (Monacan Trail) at exit 118B. I-64 eastbound exit to Rt. 29 north and Rt. 29 southbound on-ramp to I-64 east closed overnight for four consecutive nights beginning Monday, July 28, from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Motorists should follow the posted detour routes:

·         Rt. 29 southbound traffic will continue past the I-64 eastbound on-ramp to the next crossover and U-turn onto Rt. 29 northbound and merge right onto the ramp for I-64 east.

·         I-64 eastbound traffic wishing to use Rt. 29 north will continue to exit 120 (5th Street) and reenter I-64 headed westbound, then take exit 118B to Rt. 29 north.

 

Routes 6, 20, 29 – Repairs to roadway shoulders. Motorists should be alert and slow down for mobile work zones; brief delays possible.

 

Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Line painting in both directions, beginning at Nelson County line. Work will occur overnight utilizing a mobile work zone. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving vehicles and pass only when conditions are safe.

 

Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Bridge deck washing approximately 3 miles south of the Greene County line. Flagging will occurWednesday overnight, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Expect brief delays.

 

Route 250 (Richmond Road) near Pantops – Line painting in both directions. Work will occur overnight utilizing a mobile work zone. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving vehicles and pass only when conditions are safe.

 

Routes 618, 631, 729, 732 – Mowing and roadside trimming. Motorists should be aware of mobile work zones and slow-moving equipment along the road shoulders. Reduce speed and follow traffic controls. Brief delays are possible.

 

Routes 601, 627, 683, 715, 751, 1093, 1200, 1202, 1210, 1270, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1620, 1621, 1622, 1636, 9772 – Surface treatment and striping. Traffic will be controlled by flagging, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor delays.

 

Routes 627, 719 – Pipe replacements. Motorists should follow directional signs and traffic controls as they drive through the work area.

 

Routes 627, 640, 643, 1170 – Pavement patching. Flagging will occur. Motorists should slow down as they approach the work zone and expect brief delays.

 

Route 692 (Plank Road) – Rescheduled from previous week. Pipe replacement. Work will occur WednesdayThursday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the road closed during work hours only between Route 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) and Route 691 (Ortman Road). Motorists should use the posted detour route.

 

Route 708 (Dry Bridge Road) – Bridge replacement. Road closed with traffic detoured via Route 787 (Gillums Ridge Road). Anticipated completion September 2014.

 

Routes 627, 633, 634, 636, 691, 713, 722, 735 – Machining and grading gravel roads. Motorists should be alert for slow-moving equipment working in the roadway; brief delays possible.

 

Culpeper County

Routes 3, 17, 229 – Bridge deck washing on various structures SundayWednesday overnight, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Flagging will occur; expect brief delays.

 

Route 681 (Jacobs Ford Road) – Grading and installation of stone. Flagging will occur Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays.

 

Route 751 (Dragoon Road) – Grading and installation of stone. Flagging will occur Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays.

 

Town of Culpeper

Route 15/29 Business (Madison Highway) – Construction of roundabout at Route 229 (Main Street). A new traffic pattern is in effect using a temporary signal.

The northbound and southbound lanes will be limited to one lane of traffic within 1,000 feet of the intersection between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Motorists should expect minor delays, reduce speed and follow traffic controls.

 

Route 229 (Main Street) – Construction of roundabout at Route 15/29 Business (Madison Highway). A new traffic pattern is in effect.

Lane closures will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. MondayThursday and 7 a.m. to 3:30

p.m. Friday. Motorists should expect minor delays, reduce speed and follow traffic controls.

 

Fauquier County

Interstate 66 eastbound – Underdrain work from the Route 732 (Ramey Road) bridge to mile marker 28.6. Alternating lane closures will occur nightly from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. Be alert for changes to the traffic pattern and expect brief delays.

 

Interstate 66 westbound – Underdrain work from mile marker 34.1 to the Route 55 (E. Main Street) bridge and from the Route 17 (Winchester Road) bridge to the Route 245 (Old Tavern Road) ramp. Alternating lane closures will occur nightly from 9 p.m. to midnight. Be alert for changes to the traffic pattern and expect brief delays.

 

Routes 15, 28 – Bridge deck washing on various structures Sunday overnight, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Flagging will occur; expect brief delays.

 

Route 28 (Catlett Road) – Tree trimming. Flagging will occur from Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway) to Route 643 (Meetze Road) daily, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

 

Route 710 (Rectortown Road) – Paving, striping and installation of shoulder stone from Route 55 (John Mosby Highway) to Route 713 (Maidstone Road). Flagging will occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Motorists should expect delays.

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area.

 

Route 6 (West River Road) – Replacement of the Hardware River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area.

 

Routes 605, 608, 624, 638, 647, 654, 656, 659, 684, 686 – Mowing and roadside trimming. Motorists should be alert for slow-moving equipment, educe speed and follow traffic controls. Brief delays are possible.

 

Greene County

Routes 29, 33, 230 – Mowing along shoulders and median. Motorists should be alert for slow-moving equipment, reduce speed and follow traffic controls. Brief delays are possible.

 

Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Bridge deck washing near Madison County line. Flagging will occur Wednesday overnight, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Expect brief delays.

 

Routes 33, 608, 609 – Pavement patching. Flagging will occur. Motorists should slow down as they approach the work zone and expect brief delays.

 

Routes 626, 639 – Machining, grading and application of dust control on gravel roads. Motorists should be alert for slow-moving equipment working in the roadway; brief delays possible.

 

Route 647 (McMullen Mill Road) – Bridge work approximately 0.1 mile west of Route 637 (South River Road). Road closed 9 p.m. Monday, July 28, until 6 a.m. the next day, with no vehicular access past bridge. Shuttle service available to residents by calling (276) 591-7567.

 

Louisa County

Route 208 (Courthouse Road) – Paving. Flagging will occur Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists should expect delays.

 

Routes 632, 635, 637, 640, 643, 649, 745 – Mowing and roadside trimming. Motorists should be aware of mobile work zones and slow-moving equipment along the road shoulders. Reduce speed and follow traffic controls. Brief delays are possible.

 

Route 709 (Blueberry Lane) – Ditch maintenance and pipe replacement. Motorists should be alert for slow-moving equipment working along the shoulders and in the roadway; brief delays possible.

 

Madison County

Route 670 (Old Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over an unnamed stream. Road closed July 28Aug. 8approximately 0.3 mile west of Route 642 (Poor House Road). Motorists should use posted detour route: continue north on Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) to Route 643 (Etlan Road) and back to Route 670.

 

Orange County

Route 15 (James Madison Highway) – Pipe replacements. Left and right lane closures will occur just north of Route 780 (Litchfield Drive). Motorists should use caution as they approach the work zone.
