#4 UVa.’s goal to play one more week were dashed at #3 North Carolina as the Cavs women’s lacrosse team dropped a 17-7 decision to the Tar Heels in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
Senior All-American led the Cavs (14-6) with three goals, while another senior All-American, Brittany Kalkstein, added two goals in her final performance in a Virginia uniform.
“The end of any season is a really hard, sudden ending. I think that the end to this season, given all that we’ve been through, makes it especially hard ,” UVa. head coach Julie Myers said after the loss, which came in the team’s second game following the murder of senior defender Yeardley Love.
UNC improved to 17-2 on the season with the win, which sends the Tar Heels to next weekend’s Final Four.
Syracuse (15-6) ended JMU’s run at a Final Four berth with a 7-3 win in Harrisonburg. The Orange held the Dukes (17-3) scoreless in the second half after JMU had gone into the halftime break with a 3-2 lead.
