Trump, Duffy intentionally flub on Buttigieg’s last name: Reminds me of somebody

Donald Trump and his Transportation Secretary, fellow former reality-TV star Sean Duffy, made a show of themselves Wednesday mocking the pronunciation of Pete Buttigieg’s last name.

Brought to mind for me a local politician, the former vice mayor, and current Waynesboro Republican Committee honcho, Jim Wood, calling Buttigieg “Pete Buttplug” a couple of years back.

The scene on Wednesday was on a slightly bigger stage: in the Oval Office, as Trump and Duffy talked up their plans to undo fuel-efficiency regulations implemented in the Biden administration, in which Buttigieg was the Transportation Secretary.

Duffy mentioned Buttigieg by name; Trump interrupted to correct the pronunciation.

I can’t believe the Trumper didn’t go for the homophobic slur.

Here was their exchange:

DUFFY: Biden and Buttigieg actually did an analysis using–

TRUMP: Boot-edge-edge.

DUFFY: Edge-edge, that’s right. Boot-edge-edge.

The cabal of old White dudes surrounding them at the made-for-TV spectacle broke out in uproarious laughter, because they’re sh*t-eatin’-grinning idiots.

Anyway, Jim Wood has a year and a month left on his term on Waynesboro City Council before he moves to the dustbin of local history.
