Gas prices are up 74 cents per gallon since Donald Trump launched war on Iran on Feb. 28, but there is good news underlying: that just means we’re all making more money, according to the president.
“The United States is the largest Oil Producer in the World, by far, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money,” Trump wrote on his socials on Thursday.
Not sure who the “we” are in that sentence, but I’m pretty sure it’s not “us.”
We’re paying an average of $3.68 a gallon for gas, according to data from GasBuddy, up 25.2 percent from what we were paying on the eve of the war in Iran.
A gallon of diesel is going for an average of $4.93 a gallon, up $1.18 a gallon – 31.5 percent – over the past two weeks.
We get to help pay for that whenever we buy anything that needs to be trucked, flown, etc.
Which is to say: everything.
More good news: Trump had the bright idea to let Russia save the day for us.
Things have gotten so far out of control with this in just two weeks that the Trump regime decided on Friday to lift sanctions on Russian oil to try to calm the upward pressure on prices.
That new stratagem isn’t working, but it will help the Russkies make a mint off our self-inflicted troubles.
“Trump’s decision to pause sanctions on Russian oil will barely make a dent in skyrocketing gas prices, but will enrich Putin as he wages his bloody war against Ukraine,” U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., said in a statement. “Particularly given Russia’s close relationship with Iran, this short-sighted giveaway to Putin strengthens our adversaries, undercuts Ukraine’s fight for freedom, and leaves American families footing the bill with higher prices.”
About what Warner said there regarding Russia having a close relationship with Iran: yeah, reports are that Russian is helping Iran identify U.S. military targets.
So here we are, helping the guys who are helping the people we started this war over make more money, so that they can, what, do more to help the people we started this war over?
None of this makes sense.
But anyway, you’re paying more for gas, and we’re making more money.
Whoever “we” are.
