Staunton District Traffic Alerts: Week of Nov. 7-11

vdot-logoThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks.

The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 0 to 7, eastbound Mobile left lane and shoulder closed for roadway sweeping. Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 28 to 36, eastbound Overnight mobile right lane closure for pavement marking. Saturday, November 5, to Sunday, November 68 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day.

(NEW) Mile marker 35 to 37, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures for ditch cleaning.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) – Flagger controlled lane closures 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through November 16 for paving from Route 604 (Snake Run Road) to Route 159 (Dunlap Creek Road).

Various roads – Pavement patching with mobile lane closures.  Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Frontage Road 199 (Frontier Lane)Road closed to through traffic. Right shoulder closures as crews repair paved channel along frontage road and westbound I-64 west of exit 7. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion summer 2017.

Various roads – Pavement patching and with mobile lane closures.  Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY                                                                                                                                    

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Brush cutting, ditching and grading with mobile lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY                                                                                                                   

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 53 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Single-lane traffic through work zone. Westbound drivers use a median crossover to access the eastbound side of the interstate. After crossing the bridge, westbound drivers follow a second crossover to return to the I-64 westbound mainline. Eastbound traffic limited to the right lane. Work zone speed limit 55 miles an hour.  Estimated project completion summer 2017.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 175 to 177, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for ditch cleaning operations. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 221 to 218, southbound – Mobile, right shoulder closure for utility work. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 56 (Tye River Turnpike) – Flagger controlled lane and shoulder closures for shoulder work from Route 608 (South Bottom Road) to Nelson County Line. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Various roads – Shoulder closures as needed for tree removal.  Mobile lane closures for mowing, pothole repairs and brush cutting. Mondayto Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 708 (Gilmore Mill Road) – Road closed for bridge replacement at Cedar Creek just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway).  Estimated completion late 2016.

Route 780 (Brattons Run)Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for paving from Route 850 (West Midland Trail) to Route 653 (Rockbridge Alum Springs Road), 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 9.

Various roads – Shoulder closures as needed for tree removal.  Mobile lane closures for shoulder repairs, pothole repairs, grading, ditching and brush cutting. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Mobile lane closures for shoulder repairs and mowing. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 617 (Seldom Seen Road) – Mobile lane closures for Rural Rustic road project west of Route 654 (Doe Hill Road).  Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various roads – Mobile lane closures for ditching, mowing and brush cutting. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY    

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Shoulders closed for vegetation control. Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Mile markers 94 to 107– eastbound and westbound – Left and right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system, Mondayto Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mile marker 95 to 97, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closed for ditch cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 98 to 97, westbound – Right shoulder closed for shoulder repairs. Wednesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.


INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 208, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for ditch cleaning.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mile marker 207 to 209, northbound – Nighttime paving operations.  Alternating lane closures Sunday through Friday nights, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.Estimated completion early December.

(NEW) Mile marker 210 to 217, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for sign work. Monday to Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 – Mobile lane closure and shoulder closures for utility work from Staunton city limits to Route 647 (Christians Creek Road). November 7 to 259 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 42 (Scenic Highway) – Alternating lane closures for utility work from Route 758 (George Waltons Road) to Route 760 (Bunker Hill Road). November 17 and 18, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 18.

Route 42 (West Craig Street, Craigsville) – Intermittent lane and shoulder closures for utility work between Cemetery Lane (Route 1108) and Hancock Street (Route 1104). Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion November 11.

(UPDATE) Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) – Lane and shoulder closures for signal repairs at Route 792 (Sangers Lane). Monday to Sunday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) – Traffic shift to temporary bridge over Whiskey Creek. Work zone speed limit is 35 miles an hour.  The work zone is just east of intersection with Route 722 (Vinegar Hill Road). Estimated completion June 2017.

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) –Mobile, alternating lane closures 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for utility work from Staunton city limits to Buffalo Gap. Estimated completion  November 18.

Route 340 – Right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 340 (Main Street, Waynesboro) – South River Bride replacement.  Road closed between Constitution Park and East Avenue. Through traffic detours to Broad Street (Route 250). All businesses and residences have traffic access. Estimated completion late 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 612 (New Hope-Crimora Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for bridge work over Lewis Creek between Route 790 and Route 789, and Christians Creek between Route 907 and Route 617. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 18.

Route 612 at Route 792 (Laurel Hill Road/Indian Mound Road, Verona) – Intersection work.  Periodic single lane and shoulder closures, flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Be alert for work zone construction vehicles traffic. Estimated completion spring 2017.

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue) – Right shoulder closures for installation of traffic-management system. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 641 (Fishersville Road) – Water line work with intermittent lane and shoulder closures. Route 608 (Long Meadow Road) to Route 1360 (Westminster Drive). Monday to Friday. Estimated completion December 30.

Route 685 (Lehigh Road, Craigsville) – Bridge work. Little Calfpasture River. Road closed between Route 684 and Route 42. Detour in place. Estimated completion December 2016.

(NEW) Route 701 (Howardsville Road) – Mobile, alternating lane closure as needed for utility work from Riverheads High School to Route 613 (Old Greenville Road). November 7 to 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 865 (Rockfish Road) – Road closed November 7 to 22 for bridge replacement between Route 612 (New Hope-Crimora Road) and Route 617 (Round Hill School Road). Through traffic detour:  From the south, detour west on Route 612, north on Route 782 (Barnhart Road) and east on Route 617 back to Route 865. From the north, detour west on Route 617, south on Route 782 and east on Route 612 back to Route 865.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 240 to 246, northbound and southbound – Nighttime, single lane closures as needed for bridge maintenance on various bridges. Monday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day.  Estimated completion November 11.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Bridge work from Route 727 (Airport Road) to Route 694 (Contentment Lane). Traffic shifts onto portion of new bridge.  Shoulder closures and flagger controlled lane closures as needed. Estimated completion July 2017.

(UPDATE) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail), eastbound – Alternating lane closures for paving from 0.2 mile east of Route 996 (McGaheysville Road) to Route 981 (Rockingham Pike). Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 11.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 602 (East Point Road) – Alternating lane closure for utility work from Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) to Route 646 (Bloomer Springs Road). November 7 to December 2, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 717 (Indian Trail Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for  paving from Route 620 (Fridleys Gap Road) to Route 718 (Minie Ball Lane). Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 18.

(NEW) Route 726 (Stone Spring Road) – Road closed Monday for brief periods between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. from Peach Grove Road (City of Harrisonburg) to Port Republic for blasting.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – Bridge work at Cub Run. Periodic flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work zone speed limit is 45 miles per hour. Estimated completion September 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Pavement patching at various locations. Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion November 10.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 287 to 283, southbound – Nightly alternating lane closures and shoulder closures for guardrail installation. Sunday to Saturday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion November 18.

Mile marker 292 to 296, northbound – Nightly alternating lane closures and left shoulder closures for guardrail replacement. Sunday to Saturday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion November 18.

Mile marker 297, northbound and southbound – Alternating shoulder closures for bridge work over Norfolk Southern Railway. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2.

Mile marker 298 to 292, southbound – Nightly alternating lane and shoulder closures for guardrail installation. Sunday to Saturday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion November 18.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Strasburg) – Overnight flagger-controlled lane closures for Strasburg utility work, Sunday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Related daytime paving Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Queen Street (Route 1201, Strasburg) – Road closed between South Massanutten Street and Holiday Street for bridge replacement over Town Run. Detour in place. Estimated completion November 21.

Route 663 (Artz Road) Bridge replacement over the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. The road will remain open during construction of the new bridge, with flagger controlled lane closures 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.  Estimated completion May 2018.

Various roads – Pipe cleaning, grading and mowing. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming.  Flagger controlled lane closures during daylight hours. Monday through Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 299 to 325, northbound – Mobile right shoulder closure for shoulder repairs. Tuesday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mile marker 309 to 311, northbound and southbound Paving operations.  Right and left shoulders closed 24/7. Speed limit 60 mph through work zone. Motorists should be alert for trucks entering and exiting work zone. Estimated project completion May 2017.

(NEW) Mile marker 324 to 317, including off-ramps at exit 323A and exit 317A, southbound – Mobile shoulder closures for shoulder repairs. Tuesday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 7 – Mobile right shoulder closures for shoulder repairs to I-81 northbound on-ramp. Tuesday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 11 – Nighttime flagger controlled alternating lane closures for utility work from Route 838 (McCanns Road) to Route 761 (Old Charles Town Road). Tuesday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange Project), northbound and southbound Right and left shoulders closed 24/7. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph through work zone. Newly built portion of Route 37 is open. Drivers should be alert for traffic pattern change at intersection with Route 642 (Tasker Road). Estimated project completion May 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 627 (Reliance Road) – Mobile right shoulder closures for shoulder repairs to I-81 southbound on-ramp. November 15 to 17, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange Project) – The speed limit on Route 642 is 45 miles per hour through the work zone. The newly built portion of Route 642 is now open.  Motorists should be alert for traffic pattern changes at intersections with Route 37 and Route 847 (Hillandale).  Estimated project completion May 2017.

(NEW) Route 669 (Rest Church Road) – Mobile right shoulder closures for shoulder repairs to I-81 southbound on-ramp. Tuesday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange Project) – Newly built portion of Route 847 is open. Motorists should be alert for traffic pattern changes at intersection with Route 642 (Tasker Road). Estimated project completion May 2017.

Various roads – Grading, pipe cleaning and mowing. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger controlled lane closures during daylight hours. Monday through Friday.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 340/522 (Stonewall Jackson Highway)Signal work November 10 at intersection with Route 1434 (Lake Frederick Drive). Be alert for new traffic pattern.

Various roads – Mowing. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Brush cutting. Monday to Friday.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

(UPDATE) Mile Marker 0 to 15, eastbound and westbound – Nighttime shoulder closures for mobile paving operations. Monday to Wednesday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures scheduled.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road).  Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection. Temporary traffic switch for east and west lanes from 340/522 to .03 miles (A. S. Rhodes Elementary School) west of 340/522. Pavement markings, signs and traffic barrels will guide drivers through this area. Changes in effect through summer 2017 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road).  Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly.  Lane shift at 17th street and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection. 18th street is open to traffic, with left turn restrictions until summer 2017. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Various roads – Mowing. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 624 (Morgan Ford Road) – Road closed for bridge replacement over the Shenandoah River. Work zone from Route 643 (Howellsville Road) to Route 661 (Fairground Road).  Detours:  Drivers south of the bridge will turn right on Route 643 (Howellsville Road), which changes to Route 603 and then to Route 638 in Clarke County. Drivers will then turn left on Route 17/50 (John Mosby Highway) and left on Route 624 (Red Gate Road/Milldale Road) to reach the end of the detour. Drivers north of the bridge will follow Route 624 (Milldale Road/Red Gate Road) north and turn right on Route 17/50 (John Mosby Highway) in Clarke County. Drivers will then turn right on Route 638 (Howellsville Road), which changes to Route 603 and then Route 643, to reach the end of the detour.  Estimated project completion June 2018.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger controlled lane closures during daylight hours. Monday through Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
