As the open municipal shelter for Staunton, Augusta County and Waynesboro, the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center must keep space available for incoming dogs.

On Saturday, December 21, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., all fees are waived for “Homes for the Howl-idays Clear the Shelter” event to open space for incoming dogs involved in court cases or that are brought in by local animal control.

Animals will be available for adoption on a first come, first served basis Saturday. The early bird gets the furball, as they say.

Anyone whose application has been approved for a cat or dog in the last six months is eligible for a fee-waived adoption on Saturday. Fees are waived for approved applicants only. SVASC encourages submission of applications before Saturday as meet and greets between family and additional pets are highly encouraged. Animals cannot be held for potential adopters regardless of application or meet & greet appointments.

Applications for adoption are necessary. All animals available for adoption are viewable online. Anyone already approved for an adoption is encouraged to come to the shelter in person.

SVASC is at 1001 Mt. Torrey Rd., Lyndhurst. SVASC is open
