Snow dud: Clear conditions with rain replacing snow

Chris Graham

snow-plow-headerMotorists should expect variable road conditions throughout the Shenandoah Valley tonight.  Temperatures are hovering on either side of the freezing mark.  A mix of rain, sleet and snow should be expected throughout the night.  Higher elevations will tend to have more sleet and snow. Virginia Department of Transportation crews are deployed and will treat roads as needed throughout tonight and on Saturday.

Here are the road conditions as of 10 p.m. tonight in the VDOT Staunton District:

  • Interstate 64 – Moderate conditions in Alleghany County.  Clear conditions in Rockbridge and Augusta counties.
  • Interstate 66 – Clear conditions in Warren County.
  • Interstate 81 – Minor conditions in Shenandoah County.  Clear conditions in Rockbridge, Augusta, Rockingham, and Frederick counties.
  • Primary roads – Moderate to minor conditions in Highland County.  Minor conditions in Bath, Alleghany, Rockingham, Shenandoah and Page counties.  Clear conditions in Rockbridge, Augusta, Frederick, Warren and Clarke counties.
  • Secondary roads – Minor conditions in Bath, Highland, Alleghany, Rockingham, Page and Shenandoah counties.  Clear conditions in Rockbridge, Augusta, Frederick, Warren and Clarke counties.

For winter weather road conditions go to www.511Virginia.org, look at the orange bar on the top of the page and click on “Text Views” and then click on “Road Condition Table”. Look at the pull down box that lists all jurisdictions.  In this box individual counties can be chosen to view.
