September is the month to check out Waynesboro Public Library if you have not already, because it’s Library Card Sign-Up Month.

Registering for a library card is free, and the library is partnering with Kline’s Espresso Bar so that new library card holders obtain a token for a free drink when they get a library card.

Existing library card holders can get 10 percent off drinks in September by showing their  library card.

“It’s when we really try to promote everything wonderful about the library out to the community,” said Waynesboro Public Library Director Susan Versen said of the month.

Library Card Sign-Up Month is held every September at Waynesboro‘s library, but 2025 is the first year the library has partnered with Kline’s for an extra treat.

“At Kline’s, we’re passionate about supporting the people and the places that make our community thrive. The library is a cornerstone for learning, connection and growth, and we are honored to play a part in supporting its mission this September, Kline’s Espresso Bar & Kline’s Dairy Bar Manager Kelley Brydge said.

Programs scheduled for September include the Friends of the Library annual sale will be from noon to 7 p.m. on September 18, from noon to 5 p.m. September 19, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 20. Paint n Sip will be held the evening of September 25. Jay Daniels Music will share a program on the Beatles on September 27 from 1 to 2 p.m.

A library card is not necessary to attend events at the library.

“But, hopefully while you’re there, you might decide to get one,” Versen said.

Library cards are free to all residents of Virginia. Children 12 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult to obtain a library card.

According to Versen, while the library’s physical circulation is slightly lower than August 2024, it is 1 percent more than September 2024.

“So, we’ve been seeing a general increase in circulation since we reopened after COVID-19,” she said.

The library’s circulation is definitely above what it was during the height of the pandemic in 2020 to 2022 and digital circulation is also up.

“Not surprisingly, we’re seeing a little bit of a shift in our digital resources,” Versen said.

Library Card Sign-Up Month is a reminder that libraries have various resources available to patrons and members of the community.

“And it gives you access to a world of information and entertainment,” Versen said of options.

Waynesboro Public Library is also a space for gathering socially.

Most resources are available to borrow and take home.

Waynesboro Public Library is at 600 S. Wayne Ave., Waynesboro.
