An Augusta County man was taken into custody after he allegedly fired a handgun into a vehicle and residence in the direction of his girlfriend.
Brandyn Thomas Long, 32, is being held at Middle River Regional Jail without bond.
According to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, it executed a search warrant and multiple arrest warrants at Long’s Middlebrook Road residence at 5:15 a.m. this morning.
The arrest stems from the alleged domestic violence incident that occurred on Wednesday involving Long’s girlfriend.
Sheriff Donald Smith said Long was apprehended “quickly and safely” with help from the SWAT and K9 divisions.
Long has been charged with the following:
- 18.2-282 Brandish a firearm
- 18.2-56.1 Recklessly handling of a firearm
- 18.2-279 Discharge a firearm within a building or dwelling
- 18.2-154 Maliciously shoot at occupied motor vehicle
- 18.2-26/18.2-51.2 Attempted to maliciously shoot, stab or cut with the intent to maim, disfigure, disable or kill
- 18.2-308.2 Possession of a firearm by a violent felon
- 18.2-53.1 Use of a firearm while committing or attempting to commit malicious wounding
The investigation is ongoing.
Long is no stranger to the court system. He has faced numerous charges in Augusta County General District and Circuit Court for DWI, probation violations, eluding police, gun and drug possession, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving, assault and battery, malicious wounding and destruction of property, to name a few.
The next hearing is scheduled for July 28 at 1:30, according to the Virginia online court database.
