Shenandoah National Park is taking both a look back and a look into the future in celebration of the National Park Service Centennial.
Shenandoah National Park has a rich archive of thousands of photos documenting and chronicling its history and the many changes the land and organization have been through. To be sure that this documentation reaches the next generation, you are invited to be part of the park’s future.
Shenandoah National Park is recruiting volunteer photographers to help with this project.
Each photographer will choose an historic photo from the gallery at nps.gov/shen/vip_
This project will produce a collection of “Then & Now” photos. The Shenandoah National Park Association plans to create a special publication using some or all of the photos.
Participants will be signed up as volunteers, which will give them fee-free access to the Park during the project.
All travel and equipment will be the responsibility of the participant.
Participants must follow all Park regulations and take care to protect the resources including:
- No cutting, digging, or other damage to vegetation to stabilize self or equipment, or to obtain a better view of the targeted scene.
- No mechanized equipment such as drones or bucket trucks, etc.
- No permanent or temporary structure installation.
- No digging or moving rocks to stabilize self or equipment.
- All regulations in the Code of Federal Regulations and the Park Compendium apply.
Submitted photos will be the sole property of Shenandoah National Park, and as such, will be in the public domain.
Photographer credits will be given when possible.
Submitted photos must be a minimum of 3000 x 2400 px (10″ x 8″) at 300 dpi.
Photos must be submitted by December 31, 2016.
