Senate to allow vote on gun legislation

congressBipartisan legislation banning gun sales to people on the terrorism “no-fly” list will go to the full Senate for an up-or-down vote.

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., is pleased that the bill can proceed to the next stage.

“After partisan gun safety proposals advanced by both parties failed earlier in the week, I was proud to join a bipartisan group of ten Senators offering a commonsense bill to keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists,” Kaine said. “Today, after Republican leaders and the NRA tried to scuttle the bipartisan effort, we stuck together and overcame the motion to kill our bill. We now are entitled to a vote on our proposal and I’ll do all I can to convince my colleagues to embrace meaningful reform.”
