Route 867 in Rockingham County closing Monday for bridge replacement

Chris Graham

road work transportationPart of Route 867 (North River Road) in Rockingham County is scheduled to close Monday, May 14, for replacement of the bridge over Pleasant Run. The closure will remain in place until the new bridge opens to traffic in fall 2018. All work is weather permitting.

The Route 867 closure is between Route 693 (Fairview Road) and Route 11 (Lee Highway) at Mount Crawford. Residents and businesses will be able to access properties on either side of the work zone. Through traffic will detour as follows:

Eastbound traffic will go north on Route 11, east on Route 257/682 (Friedens Church Road), and then south on Route 867 to the end of the detour.
Westbound traffic will go north on Route 867, west on Route 682/257, and then south on Route 11 to the end of the detour.

Contractors are replacing the single-lane bridge on Route 867 with a structure that offers two 10-foot travel lanes and two-foot shoulders. The new bridge is being built slightly to the south to improve a sharp curve at the eastern approach.

In December 2017, the Virginia Department of Transportation awarded a $1,794,028.58 construction contract to Fairfield-Echols LLC of Fishersville, Va.
