Richard Embrey appointed chief medical officer at Augusta Health

Embrey RichardRichard P. Embrey, MD, MBA, has been appointed to be Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Population Health for Augusta Health, and is successor to Fred M. Castello, MD, MBA, who retired last year.

Before coming to Augusta Health, Dr. Embrey was Chief Medical Officer at Lewis Gale/HCA in Salem, Virginia, and prior to that, was the Chief Medical Officer at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Alabama.

Dr. Embrey is a native of Lynchburg, Virginia.  He attended The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his General Surgery residency at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by a residency and fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Alabama.  Dr. Embrey has worked as a private physician in cardiothoracic surgery and has held several academic appointments, including the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and Duke University.  He holds an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
