ShenanArts is delighted to present the iconic musical “Cabaret,” directed by Robb Zahm from August 2 to 4, 2024 and August 9 to 11.

The captivating production offers audiences an experience of unforgettable high-energy entertainment blended with a thought-provoking story.

“I chose to direct Cabaret now because it highlights a pivotal moment in history that echoes today. The show is set in a time when humanity was forced to reckon with the reality that isolated actions among discreet agents could have an impact far beyond the intended one. Following the horrors made manifest during the First World War, and in opposition to the atrocities that gave rise to the second, Cabaret dares to ask the audience what can be done, on a personal level, to correct the course of history; how much any such action might cost; and, perhaps most significantly, what happens when those actions aren’t enough?” Zahm said of his inspiration for bringing the classic to ShenanArts.

Larry Friedland will bring the charismatic Emcee to the stage.

“The cast of this production is deeply invested in the characters and nuances of the story. This is a big and, at times, flashy production that pulls you in and holds you in a world that is simultaneously alluring and intriguing. It’s a show that entertains while making you think, leaving a lasting impression long after the final curtain,” Friedland said.

Charlie Trzell, who will portray Sally Bowles, reflects on the show’s relevance and impact.

“Cabaret invites audiences to reconnect with empathy and reevaluate our place in history. In times of uncertainty, it can be tempting to seek escapism. Cabaret encourages us to enjoy the moment while also reminding us of the importance of being aware of the world around us.”

“Cabaret” is more than just a musical, it is an exploration of human connection, resilience and the power of self-expression.

ShenanArts is at 300 Churchville Ave., Staunton. Tickets are available online.
