Orioles lose fourth straight

lgo_mlb_baltimore_oriolesDalton Pompey scored on a ninth-inning fielders choice, lifting Toronto to a 4-3 win over Baltimore Monday night in Camden Yards.

The loss was the fourth in a row for Baltimore (76-80), who are six games back of Houston for the second American League wild-card spot with six games to play, basically out of the race for a 2015 playoff berth, though technically still alive, barely, mathematically.

The Orioles got all of their offense on a second-inning three-run homer from Ryan Flaherty, his ninth of the season.

That homer gave Baltimore a 3-1 lead, which held up until the eighth, when RBI singles by Ben Revere and Jose Bautista off reliever Darren O’Day tied the score at 3-3.

The Blue Jays broke the tie with the fielders choice off the bat of Justin Smoak off Brad Brach (5-3, 2.44 ERA).

Roberto Osuna got the last two outs in the bottom of the ninth to record his 20th save.

The win, coupled with a 5-1 New York Yankees loss to Boston on Monday, gives Toronto a five-game lead in the American League East with six games to play.
