The Waynesboro Police Department arrested a city man who had been a fugitive from North Carolina for over two years.
Officers arrested Christopher Michael Lanier, 32 years old, who was wanted in North Carolina for a slew of drug charges and failure to pay child support, yesterday after receiving a tip from North Carolina law enforcement that he was living in Waynesboro. On September 17, the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office, located inKenansville, NC contacted the police department requesting assistance in apprehending Lanier.
An alert officer recognized Lanier yesterday in the 700 block of 7th Street as Lanier drove by him. He was arrested without incident.
The North Carolina charges Lanier is facing are as follows:
- Failure to Pay Child Support (in excess of $5,000)
- Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Felony Marijuana Distribution
- Manufacture of Marijuana
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
At a court hearing today, Lanier waived extradition. He is currently being held at MRRJ awaiting pick-up from North Carolina officials.
