economic-forecast-headerColumbia Gas of Virginia customers will benefit from lower natural gas bills this winter compared to last winter. The approved lower rates means a 10.72 percent decrease in total monthly customer bills when compared against the same period last year. The rates take effect immediately.

The new total residential typical monthly bill is $113.46 when compared to the December 2014 total monthly bill of $127.09 and is based on a seasonal usage level of 100 Ccf. A Ccf is the measurement used for natural gas usage and is the equivalent of 100 cubic feet.

“The sustained production of domestic natural gas is a real success story that continues to result in a positive financial benefit for Columbia’s residential customers as well as the Virginia businesses and industries that use natural gas to manufacture products,” said Brent Archer, Columbia’s President. “This is good news to share as we enter the winter heating season when natural gas use is typically at its highest.”

When Columbia Gas is able to purchase lower priced natural gas on the commodity market, it is passed along in the form of lower rates to the more than 252,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers Columbia Gas serves across Virginia.
