The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down for two minutes in Luray Friday night.

The EF-0 tornado touched down from 6:06 to 6:08 p.m. and was confirmed by the weather service out of Washington/Baltimore on Saturday.

Peak winds reached 75 miles per hour, and the tornado was on the ground for 1.1 miles. The tornado’s width was 50 yards, according to NWS.

Minor damage was reported including uprooted trees and broken branches. A fence in the tornado’s path received damage as did a small barn and shed.

There were no injuries or deaths reported.

The tornado was part of strong storms throughout the region; a tornado watch was issued for most of Virginia, including Page County, due to the potential for tornadic activity.

An EF-0 is the weakest category of tornados with winds usually between 65 and 85 miles per hour.
