Nathan Moore hosts songwriter weekend

Contributors

Songwriters from both coasts and many points in-between will converge on the Shenandoah Valley May 1 to participate in a creative brainstorming and networking weekend hosted by local singer-songwriter Nathan Moore. The event will feature collaborative sessions between visiting and local musicians in a primitive camp setting on the Middle River. Several attendees will perform free shows at various locations throughout the weekend in Staunton.

Indiana-based children’s musician Ruditoonz will entertain children at Pufferbellies Toys and Books, 15 W. Johnson St., on Friday, May 1 at 10:30 am. Ruditoonz is the high-energy brain-child of songwriter Scott Rudicel that combines unique and imaginative songs with audience participation. More information is available at www.ruditoonz.com or by calling Pufferbellies at 540.886.3516.

Saturday, May 2, Vermont singer-songwriter Joe Adler will be in concert at The Darjeeling Café, 219 W. Beverley St from 8-10pm offering a selection of original acoustic music that draws on influences ranging from the blues, folk, and the experimental tendencies of Tom Waits, to the poetic leanings of Leonard Cohen. Contact The Darjeeling Café at (540)213-0066 or visit www.myspace.com/joeadleracoustic for more information.

And Sunday, May 3 at 9 p.m. one of San Francisco’s up-and-coming musicians, Fred Torphy of the popular band Big Light, will be at the Baja Bean, 9 W. Beverley, starting at 9 pm. Torphy’s band will be touring with Moore in California in May and June. More details available by calling the Baja Bean at (540)885-9988 or visiting www.myspace.com/fredtorphymusic.

Moore’s songwriting weekend is part of his growing Road Home program for promoting quality musical events, creative interchange between touring and local musicians and their fans, and educational programs for people of all ages in the Staunton area.
