Lynchburg VDOT District Roads Report: July 20-26

road-work-headerHighway work in the Lynchburg VDOT District requiring road/lane./structure closures is scheduled, weather permitting.  Traffic may be restricted.  Items in italics contain new/updated information.  For up-to-date information, call 511 or visitwww.511Virginia.org.

 

Amherst County: Don Austin, Residency Administrator

Route 29 Bypass over Route 659 – Bridge painting 7/2-9/1: Lane closures will take place on the bypass and Route 659. Signs and other traffic control devices will be in use.

Paving operations – Beginning 6/16, crews will pave at the following locations in this order: Route 677, Route 778, Route 655, and Route 739. The work is expected to last until mid-August.

Various – Crews will respond to customer concerns. Also, crews will mill and pave. Signs and other traffic control devices will be in use. Minor delays expected through 12/5/14.

 

Appomattox County: Don Austin, Residency Administrator

Various – Crews will respond to customer concerns and mill and pave. Signs and other traffic control devices will be in use. Minor delays expected through 12/5/14.

 

Buckingham County: Kevin Wright, Residency Administrator

Route 60 – Crews will make entrance pipe and ditch line repairs.

Route 671 over Hunts Creek – Road will be closed 7/7 –9/19/14 for bridge replacement. Detour available.

Andersonville area – Crews will work on shoulders.

Dillwyn area – Crews will conduct ditch maintenance.

Various – Crews will make surface repair, boom axe and respond to customer concerns.

 

Campbell County: Don Austin, Residency Administrator

Route 29/460 interchange near regional airport – Bridge painting from 8 pm to 6 am, Sunday evening through Friday morning. Est. comp. 7/22.

Route 712 over 29 Bypass, Altavista –  Bridge painting 7/-9/10: Lane closures will take place on the bypass and Route 712. Signs and other traffic control devices will be in use.

Route 714 over 29 Bypass, Altavista– A temporary signal, signs and other traffic control devices will be used to alert motorists to single lane during bridge work. Est. comp. early August 2014.

Various – Crews will respond to customer concerns and mill and pave. Signs and other traffic control devices will be in use. Minor delays expected through 12/5/14.

 

Charlotte County:  Kevin Wright, Residency Administrator

Phenix – Crews will clean ditch and pipe and add shoulder stone.

Various – Crews will work surfaces, boom axe, mow and respond to customer concerns.

Various secondary routes–Crews will mill and pave. Signs and other traffic control devices will be in use. Minor delays expected through 12/5/14.

 

Cumberland County: Kevin Wright, Residency Administrator

Various – Crews will work surface/shoulders, cut brush, clean pipe/ditches, and respond to customers.

 

Halifax County: Kenneth Martin, Residency Administrator

Route 58 in Cluster Springs area and primary routes in Volens area  – Crews will mow.

Route 603 – Road closed from Route 626 to Route 627 on Wednesday, July 23 for railroad track repairs. Recommended detour: Route 603 to Route 644 and Route 627.

Bethel – Crews will sweep intersections.

Volens –Crews will boom axe and limb trees.

Various – Crews will perform surface work and respond to customer concerns.

 

Nelson County: Don Austin, Residency Administrator

Route 623 over Rockfish River– Road closed during bridge replacement at the intersection of 617/623. A signed detour will be in place. Estimated completion – 9/ 30/14.

Various – Crews will respond to customer concerns and mill and pave. Signs and other traffic control devices will be in use. Minor delays expected through 12/5/14.

 

Pittsylvania County: Kenneth Martin, Residency Administrator

Route 29 in Gretna  – Crews will work shoulders.

Route 676 – 8/4/14 – 11/18/15, road closed bet. Routes 674 and 689 for replacement of the Whitethorn Creek bridge. Detour :Routes 903, 687, 649, 886 and 689. Signs and other traffic control devices in use.

Route 685 (686-690) – Road closed for bridge replacement. Est. comp. 9/26/14. Detour: 686, 683 to 649.

Route 924– Road closed 6/30-9/19/14 for structure replacement; detour via Routes 665 & 638.

Brosville and Kentuck– Crews will ditch at various locations.

Gretna, Kentuck,  Mt. Airy and Rondo– Crews will boom axe at various locations.

Various – Crews will work surfaces, mow, clean roadsides and respond to customer concerns.

 

Prince Edward County: Kevin Wright, Residency Administrator

Route 623 –Bridge replacement over NS and Buckingham Branch Railroads. Est. comp. 6/30/15.

Route 633 (15 – 360) –Bridge replacement project. Estimated completion – 10/14.

Route 658 – Crews will make shoulder repairs.

Various – Crews will pick up trash, cut brush, mow, make surface repairs and respond to customers.

Various –Surface treatment operations will take place on various routes through 10/31/14.

 

District-wide activities:

Bridge and guardrail maintenance – Crews will perform bridge and guardrail maintenance, including bridge washing at various locations. Signs, flaggers and other safety devices will be used to alert motorists to these operations.

Latex schedules –Latex paving is underway or has been completed in many areas, line marking crews will be or are now in operation.

Message boards – Work is continuing on the installation of message boards at various locations. Be alert.
