jamesmadisonlogopurplepcJMU telescopes will be available to the public for free twice this weekend as the John C. Wells Planetarium kicks off its monthly Star Party series.

The first opportunity to see the stars will be 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25. A special star party will be held at 8 p.m.Sunday, Sept. 27, when viewers will be treated to a total luncar eclipse. There will not be another eclipse like Sunday’s in North America until 2018.

In addition to the telescopes, planetarium student educators will be present to discuss what can be seen and answer questions.

Star parties take place in the JMU Astronomy Park in the meadow behind the physics/chemistry building on the JMU campus east of interstate 81. Plenty of free parking will be available close by in the D2 parking lot. A map of the lot, its proximity to the Astronomy Park and additional information about the monthly star parties is available on the planetarium website athttp://www.jmu.edu/planetarium/star-parties.shtml.
