Motorists should be alert for a road closure at the Delphine Avenue railroad bridge replacement project in Waynesboro.
Delphine Avenue will be closed from Hopeman Parkway to Main Street from Oct. 19 at 8 a.m. to Jan. 8, 2010 at 5 p.m. The lane closures will be 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week.
The lane closures will allow for construction of the remaining portion of the bridge deck surface. This work will involve construction of a large portion of the new Delphine Avenue roadway between Sixth Street and Seventh Street, including storm drainage, retaining wall and utilities. Removal of the existing bridge with cranes is scheduled for the week of Nov. 2.
There are several alternatives for work zone detours.
For travelers entering south Waynesboro from Interstate 64 at exit 96 and traveling north on Route 340:
Expect delays using this route.
As an alternative route into Waynesboro, thru traffic and trucks take I-64 Exit 94 (Route 340/Waynesboro) and head towards Waynesboro, turning left onto Lew Dewitt Boulevard west to Route 250 east to Hopeman Parkway north.
For thru traffic and trucks entering north Waynesboro traveling south on Route 340 to I-64, take Hopeman Parkway west to Route 250 west to Lew Dewitt Boulevard east to Route 340 south to I-64.
For local traffic traveling within Waynesboro from Route 340 north heading south, take Second Street west to Bath Avenue south to Charlotte Avenue south to Broad Street. Local traffic from
Route 340 south heading north, take Broad Street (Route 250) to Charlotte Avenue north to Bath Avenue north to Second Street east to Delphine Avenue north.
All work and scheduling is weather permitting. Message signs have been placed at various locations in the Waynesboro area to alert motorists of this traffic pattern change. Detour signs will be posted.
