Keeping a forest in the family will be the topic of a two-day short course that will be held October 5 and October 12 at The Inn at Willow Grove in Orange, Va. Attendees will learn what they need to do to successfully pass their land on to the next generation of their family members without breaking up the land or losing it due to tax burdens.
Interested parties must complete an application and register by Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, and space is limited. The cost to attend is $70 for up to two family members (additional family members may attend for $35 a person), which includes dinner both nights as well as a copy of the award-winning “Ties to the Land: Your Family Forest Heritage”. “Focusing on Land Transfer to Generation ‘Next’” is the title of the short course that runs from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5th and Wednesday, Oct. 12th.
Adam Downing of Virginia Cooperative Extension said, “This hands-on workshop will include free legal advice from professionals experienced in intergenerational land transfer as well as landowner testimonials of estate planning steps and strategies they have used.
