State legislators today approved a $2.6 billion bond package that will fund a host of important infrastructure improvements across the Commonwealth.
State Del. Steve Landes, R-Weyers Cave, talked up the improvements that will be in the works in the Greater Augusta area as a result of the action in the General Assembly.
“I was extremely pleased to vote for the bills which provide money for the building of a new Western State Hospital as well as the construction of a new school for the Deaf, Blind, and Multi-Disabled as part of the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton,” said Landes, who represents the 25th House District, which includes Waynesboro and portions of Albemarle County, Augusta County and Rockingham County in the General Assembly.
Also included in the bills are two major building projects for the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center, noted Landes.
The bond package earmarks $110 million to replace Western State Hospital in Staunton and $71.3 million to build a new consolidated School for the Deaf, Blind and Multi-Disabled in Staunton. The projects at WWRC include a $7.9 million kitchen and dining hall and a $9.7 million dormitory.
