JMU CB Jimmy Moreland named to Jerry Rice Watch List

jmu logoJames Madison football freshman cornerback Jimmy Moreland (Royal Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach) has been named to the initial Jerry Rice Award Watch List for the 2014 season, announced by The Sports Network.

The top first-year player in the FCS, whether a true freshman or a redshirt freshman, will win the award named for the legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice, who played in the FCS (then Division I-AA) at Mississippi Valley State. The award will be voted on by a national panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries following the regular season.

Moreland has 27 tackles, 22 of them solo, in six games this season along with team-bests of two interceptions, two blocked kicks and two fumble recoveries. His 27 tackles are tied for seventh on the JMU team, and he is tied for the Colonial Athletic Association lead with his two fumble recoveries and two interceptions
