Jim Ross: Daniel Bryan fans need to be patient

Chris Graham

danielbryanDaniel Bryan has never been more over, but Jim Ross doesn’t think the DB Train is about to pull into the station just yet.

“I am a firm believer that great talents cannot be suppressed permanently and that there is a method to what is perceived to be the madness that is ongoing,” Ross wrote on his blog on the controversy involving Bryan’s use, or lack thereof, at the Royal Rumble on Sunday.

Bryan opened the pay-per-view with a loss to Bray Wyatt in a thrilling singles match, and surprisingly was done for the night, despite the crowd in Pittsburgh chanting his name throughout the underwhelming Randy Orton-John Cena WWE Title match and the lengthy main event.

Once it was clear that Bryan would not be among the 30 participants in the Royal Rumble match, fans in the arena at the live show turned on the match, the show and WWE itself. The crowd behavior at the event has been described as a “hijacking” of the show, and the term is accurate.

Ross sees a positive to the fans’ reaction.

“I’d venture to say that today, 24 hours after the Royal Rumble, that Daniel Bryan has never been more popular in his entire career,” Ross wrote, adding that Bryan doesn’t need the WWE Title to be over.

“Daniel Bryan is over, and his fans are seemingly rallying behind him in a verbal show of solidarity and support. If Bryan embraces this support, then a happier ending is more likely to occur,” Ross wrote.

“Will all this soap opera-esque content actually lead to happier days for Daniel Bryan fans? My guess is yes unless the sports entertainment business has changed even more than I perceive. However, I do think that patience needs to be infused here and that’s something that many of us aren’t long on.”
