Interstate 64 closed in Rockbridge County on Sunday

On Sunday, December 13, eastbound and westbound Interstate 64 will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. for pavement repairs between exit 50 (Lexington/Kerrs Creek) and the junction of Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County. Local traffic will be able to reach the city of Lexington from I-64 eastbound by using exit 50, or from I-81 by using exit 188B or exit 195. Virginia State Police will enforce a detour route for all through traffic.

Westbound I-64 through traffic will detour south on Interstate 81 to exit 150, and then follow Route 220 north back to I-64 at exit 27 in Alleghany County.

Eastbound I-64 through traffic will detour at exit 27 in Alleghany County and follow Route 220 south. Drivers will then enter I-81 northbound at exit 150. The detour ends near mile marker 191, where eastbound I-64 merges with northbound I-81.

Signs and variable message boards will guide motorists through the roughly 90-mile detour.

The pavement repairs will take place on I-64 between mile markers 53.3 and 55.3, where contractors are rehabilitating bridges over the Maury River.
