Harrisonburg Public Works’ stormwater team will host a public meeting next week to update the community on its improvement plan.

The stormwater team has worked collaboratively with consultants Tetra Tech to collect data on potential future stormwater best management practices to address water quality. The public previously provided input through a survey and open house.

The Stormwater Improvement Plan is intended to be a guide to help city staff reach 2028 pollution reduction requirements set by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.

“After the release of the public survey and open house, we are excited to invite the community to learn more about the information that has been collected,” said Keith Thomas, Harrisonburg Sustainability and Environmental Manager. “We are eager to take the next step in the SWIP project process by presenting proposed stormwater plans and treatment recommendations.

The presentation will be offered twice on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Lucy F. Simms Continuing Education Center at 620 Simms Ave.

Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Review information gathered from the recent public survey and open house event
  • Learn about current stormwater conditions and plans for the future
  • Hear about preliminary results and potential stormwater treatment locations
  • View educational materials
  • Ask questions
  • Interpretation services will be available at the public meeting in Spanish, Arabic and Kurdish.

For more information or to request additional interpretation services, call Public Works at (540) 434-5928 or email [email protected]
