Update: Harrisonburg Police continuing death investigation

Update: Monday, 5:44 p.m. The Harrisonburg Emergency Communication Center received a call in reference to an unresponsive female at an apartment building on North High Street in Harrisonburg on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, Harrisonburg Fire Department and The Harrisonburg Police Department responded to the scene. Upon arrival, first responders arrived on scene and determined that the female was deceased inside her residence. HPD patrol officers then secured scene and began to canvass the area for any suspects, witnesses, or anything of evidentiary value.

HPD Major Crimes Unit was called in to investigate the cause of death. MCU obtained a search warrant for the residence and executed the search warrant. The HPD Forensic Evidence Team was called in to process the scene for evidence.

The body has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke where an autopsy and toxicology examination will take place.

At this time the cause of death is considered suspicious.

First report: Sunday, 10:16 p.m. The Harrisonburg Police Department is conducting a death investigation at an apartment building in the 50 block of North High Street.

Officers located a deceased individual after responded to a call on Sunday afternoon. No other details regarding the investigation are available at this time.
