Gas prices are down below the $3-per-gallon mark nationally again, with GasBuddy reporting the average across the U.S. being at $2.98 per gallon on Monday morning.

Virginia drivers are paying an average of $2.88 per gallon.

Diesel is at $3.47 per gallon.

The price points are about a nickel lower than where we were a month ago, and 12 cents per gallon down from the end of 2023.

Looking ahead, Patrick De Haan, the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, is forecasting price stability.

“In the week ahead, we’ll likely see gas prices fall in some states, while the Great Lakes region may experience another price cycle. Overall, I expect the national average to remain mostly stable,” De Haan said.
