Frederick Keys complete four-game sweep of Salem Red Sox

For the second time in the series, Mike Yastrzemski broke a tie game late. The Frederick Keys turned a 3-0 deficit after five into a 5-3 lead after eight and a half, thanks in part to a double by Yaz in the ninth, on the way to a 5-4 victory over the Salem Red Sox. It was the third one run decision of the Keys four game series sweep.

Dennis Torres picked up the win in relief, going three innings, surrendering a run on three hits. Nate Reed was saddled with the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in three innings of his own. Pat Light was outstanding for a third straight start in a no decision for the Sox. Light went six innings, allowing a run on six hits. Dylan Bundy threw three plus frames, allowing three runs on five hits, throwing 73 pitches.

The Sox got on the board first for the first time since July 2nd. Jantzen Witte and Carson Blair walked back to back to lead off the second against Bundy. After back to back strikeouts, Kendrick Perkins launched his first Carolina League hit and RBI, followed by an RBI single by Jordan Weems to give the Sox a 2-0 edge.

Salem added a third run off Bundy in the fourth. Kevin Heller singled, stole second, and scored on a Mario Martinez single to gets the Sox the 3-0 edge.

The Keys began their comeback in the sixth. Michael Burgess led off the frame with a double off Light, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brenden Webb.

Nate Reed came in to relieve Light in the seventh. He allowed a leadoff single to Wynston Sawyer. Following a strikeout, Yastrzemski singled to put two on. With two outs, Trey Mancini knocked in both runs with a single to tie the game.

The game stayed tied at three until the ninth. Jerome Pena laced a one out single, followed by an RBI double by Yastrzemski to give the Keys a 4-3 lead. After a failed squeeze play, Trey Mancini singled in Glynn Davis to give Frederick a needed insurance run.

The Red Sox did add a run in the bottom of the ninth. Perkins and Weems singled back to back to start the frame. After a sacrifice bunt, Perkins scored on a groundout by Jose Vinicio, but that’s all Salem would get.

Frederick’s sweep was the first time Salem has been swept at home since April 11-14. The Sox look to snap the skid tomorrow in Wilmington at 7:05. Corey Littrell gets the ball for the Sox with Glenn Sparkman going for the Blue Rocks.
