Dr. Bud Robertson to speak at Pamplin Park

Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier will welcome eminent Civil War scholar and legend Dr. James I. “Bud” Robertson Jr. to speak at the Petersburg Civil War Roundtable on September 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the Park’s Education Center. Robertson’s presentation titled “How the Civil War Still Lives” will provide insights on how the war is still relevant today and continuing to shape perspectives for future generations.

Dr. Robertson is the founding executive director of the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies research and education center at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and is considered the preeminent historian on Confederate Lieutenant General “Stonewall” Jackson. His first foray into the Civil War came in 1961 when President John F. Kennedy nominated Robertson to serve as the executive director of the U.S. Civil War Centennial Commission to commemorate the war era. This would be followed by the publication of 18 books authored by Robertson to include award-winning titles General A. P. Hill, Soldiers Blue and Gray and Civil War! Robertson’s most recent book, After the Civil War: The Heroes, Villains, Soldiers and Civilians Who Changed America was published in 2015 and he continues to edit, write and speak on Civil War related topics.

The mission of the Petersburg Civil War Roundtable is to serve as a community facilitator for the dissemination and discussion of historical topics related to the Civil War era. This period’s military, social, economic, and political historical relevance is clearly apparent in our present lives. The Roundtable seeks to provide a more thorough understanding of this era and to better inform citizens of today.

The Petersburg Civil War Roundtable (PCWRT) meets each month (except June, July, and August) at Pamplin Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier from 7:00 pm-8:00 pm. Annual membership is $40.00. Individuals who are already members of Pamplin Historical Park can become members of PCWRT for $20.00. Non-members can attend for $5.00 each meeting. A limited time Roundtable lifetime membership is also available at $100.00.
