Two members of the West Virginia National Guard in the nation’s capital as part of Donald Trump’s show of force were shot near the White House Wednesday and are, at this writing, in critical condition.

I’m not the religious sort, but if you are, and believe in the power of prayer, this would be a good time.

A suspect is in custody in the shooting, which was reported at 2:15 p.m. outside the Farragut West Metro station, a two-minute walk from the White House.

The Guard members are among the 2,375 troops from DC and several red states called to duty on Aug. 11 as part of Trump’s DC Safe and Beautiful Mission, one of the POTUS’s many shows of force in Democrat-led cities nationwide.

The West Virginia National Guard originally had 416 troops in DC as part of the mission, though the numbers were scaling back, with plans to wind down by the end of the year.

In the aftermath of the shooting, with the details still sketchy, at best, Trump has already ordered a ramp-up of the Guard effort, calling for 500 more Guard troops to be deployed to DC, as if that will do anything other than add to the show.

A federal judge has ruled against the legality of the DC deployment, though the order was stayed into December to allow the Trump administration to prepare an appeal.

At this writing, the name of the suspect has not been released; it is being reported by multiple outlets that the suspect is not being cooperative with investigators.

Translation: they can’t pin him down quite yet as a leftist, but they’re working on it.

Leftist, wayward MAGA, political atheist – the guy shot two innocent people a day before Thanksgiving just doing their jobs.

Let’s hope it doesn’t turn out that they were shot because they were doing their jobs, though I wouldn’t put money on that being the case.
