Developing: Tractor trailer driver shot on I-95 south, traffic diverted

Traffic on Interstate 95 south in Richmond is being diverted after a tractor trailer driver was shot through the vehicle’s passenger side door tonight.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:33 p.m., just south of the Bells Road exit, according to Virginia State Police.

The driver, a 35-year-old from Atlanta, Ga., was struck in the leg and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The Virginia State Police bureau of criminal investigation responded to the scene.

The incident remains under active investigation.

Southbound I-95 traffic is being diverted at Maury Street. Drivers should expect delays in the area for several hours.
