Virginia State Police is investigating the shooting death of a truck driver on Interstate 295 late Friday night.

According to VSP, Silvio Sobrinho, 58, of Revere, Mass., was found deceased with an apparent gunshot wound after the tractor-trailer that he was driving collided with a second tractor-trailer at the 25 mile marker on I-295.

A witness in a tractor-trailer traveling northbound saw the incident, which knocked Sobrinho’s truck off the roadway, and found Sobrinho slumped over the steering wheel.

A responding trooper initiated CPR, but the driver was later pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel.

Several bullet holes were discovered on the passenger side of the victim’s tractor unit.

The truck that struck Sobrinho’s vehicle is described as a white tractor-trailer with green lettering.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” said Capt. Brien Frey, Richmond BCI captain. “We urge anyone with information or dashcam footage related to this incident to come forward and assist law enforcement.”

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 804-750-8758, #77 from a cell phone, or email [email protected]
