DuPont Community Credit Union announced the 20 scholarship winners at the 53rd Annual Membership Meeting earlier this week.

Since beginning the scholarship program over $192,000 has been awarded to high school seniors, and 92 seniors applied this year.

“We are very pleased to provide scholarships to this year’s 20 recipients,” said Everett J. Campbell, chairman of the DCCU Board of Directors. “Each winner receives a $1,000 award, and the Credit Union strongly believes that by assisting these students in furthering their education it is a winning combination for both them and our community.”

Among the 2012 winners are: Kaitlin Whitesell, Buffalo Gap High School; Amelia Ritchie, Fort Defiance High School; Dalton Byerly, Robert E. Lee High School; Allen T. Chandler, Riverheads High School; Cristyn Filla, Stuarts Draft High School; Noah Rodammer, Waynesboro High School, and Mary Alexander, Wilson Memorial High School.

Kali Chenault, Broadway High School; Tyler Pattie, Central High School; James Bebber, East Rockingham; Lauren Phillips, Harrisonburg High School; Delaney Westwood, Spotswood High School; Donald Sobanko, Stonewall Jackson High School; Elizabeth Keller, Strasburg High School, and Meagan Swortzel, Turner Ashby High School.

Jamie Sprouse, Bath County High; David Leech, Highland High School; Lucas Wheeler, Parry McClure High School; Josh Hartless, Rockbridge High School, and, Joscelyn Seaton, Private School.

To qualify for DCCU’s scholarship, a high school senior must submit an application and essay to the Credit Union. This year’s essay topic was: “Budgeting and Paying for College.” The students are not required to be a member of the Credit Union or have interest in a financial career path. The Credit Union will once again accept applications for scholarships after the start of the next academic year in the fall of this year.

DCCU is a not-for-profit, full-service financial cooperative organized to serve the ever changing financial needs of all the members who own it. The Credit Union operates ten offices in the Central Shenandoah Valley region.  For more information visit the DCCU website at mydccu.com.
