There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the freeze or elimination of federal funding and the potential impact it may have on local nonprofit organizations.
The Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge, in partnership with CAPSAW, Augusta Health and the DCCU Cares Foundation are trying to grasp the impact of extended freezes or reductions of federal funding to the local community.
CFCBR launched an online survey for nonprofit organizations to share details on federal funding for the services they provide each year.
CFCBR Executive Director Day Layman told AFP the organizations are hoping for strong participation in the survey.
They are hoping the survey results will give them a better idea of the tangible effects of a potential cut in federal funding since President Donald Trump and his DOGE enforcers have haphazardly paused funding and defied a court order to reinstate the funding.
“We can then begin tracking any discussion about changes to those programs,” Layman said.
“Unfortunately, none of us are sitting on a pot of extra money to make up for those potential cuts,” he said.
“We will, however, know which organizations to quickly bring together to discuss how we move forward.”
CFCBR’s coverage area includes the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro and the counties of Augusta, Highland and Nelson.
The survey is available online.
