If you or someone you know has been avoiding going to the doctor because of the cost, a free pop-up clinic being offered for two days only in Augusta County next month could offer a solution.

Remote Area Medical will offer free dental, vision and medical services on March 21-22 at Augusta Expo in Fishersville.

The clinic aims to provides services to people who could not otherwise afford services for any reason: no insurance, high deductibles, no dental and vision coverage, etc.

No identification or insurance is required.

More than half a million people in Virginia do not have health insurance, and that number is expected to grow as the current administration works to eliminate subsidies offered through the Affordable Care Act. On top of that, a Republican-led Congress has approved more than $10 trillion in cuts to Medicaid over the next decade. The two moves alone could lead to more than 300,000 people in the state losing insurance coverage.

Services offered to those who attend the clinic include medical exams, women’s health exams, dental cleanings and extractions and eye exams. Prescription glasses will be offered on site.

Additional services that will be available include audiology, pediatrics, Narcan training, haircuts and retinal screenings.

The parking lot will open no later than 11:59 p.m. on Friday night and remain open for the duration of the clinic. Clinic doors open at 6 a.m. on Saturday. Services are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Due to time constraints, patients may have to choose between dental and vision services.

The clinic is hosted by the RAM Campus Chapter at the University of Virginia.
