Charlottesville Gas holds third annual 811 Day celebration

CharlottesvilleCharlottesville Gas will host the third annual National 811 Day celebration on Thursday. National 811 Day celebrates the “call before you dig” service required before any size excavation project can begin. The free service, designated as VA811 for Virginia, encourages safe digging practices to help prevent injuries and damages.

The event will take place on Thursday, August 11th (8/11) from noon to 2 p.m.atBetter Living Building Supply on Route 29 North. Visitors can expect free pizza and shaved ice, music, giveaways, live radio coverage on HitKicker 99.7FM, VA811 information, and the opportunity to register to win Jon Pardi tickets. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will also be present hosting a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and visitors are encouraged to stop by both events.

Calling 811 is free. Homeowners and contractors are required to contact VA811 at least three working days before beginning any digging project to allow ample time for underground utility locations to be marked. The size of the project doesn’t matter. Charlottesville Gas alone runs just over 600 miles of gas pipeline within the City and Albemarle County, and striking just one of them can lead to injury, damages, fines or service interruption.

Charlottesville Gas invites everyone to stop by and join in the celebration. For more information about VA811 and safe digging practices, visit www.va811.com. To learn more about the event, contact Gas Marketing at 434-970-3686 or[email protected].
